The purse for this award in the 2000 competition was $5,000.
The panel of judges for the 2000 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Awards were:
Alice Quinn, chair & poetry editor of The New Yorker; B.H. Fairchild, poet, Professor of English at California State University, San Bernardino, and past Kinglsey Tufts Award recipient; Carol Muske-Dukes, poet, critic, and professor of English at the University of Southern California; Charles H. Rowell, editor of Callaloo and professor of English at the University of Virginia; and Gary Soto, poet, memoirist, librettist, publisher and storyteller.
Preliminary judges for the competition were:
Robert Faggen, associate professor of literature at Claremont McKenna College, critic, and editor; Christopher Buckley, poet and chair of the Creative Writing Department at the University of California, Riverside; and Gary Young, poet and freelance writer.
